Scalp work is planned around your hairline, your hair loss pattern and your colouring. It's always mapped and agreed with you first. Each session is £450, and most people need one to three, but the number depends on the head so your consultation confirms it.

The aftercare on scalp work is stricter than on facial treatments, and it makes a real difference to how the result settles.

Don't touch or wash the area at all. Some redness is normal.

Preparation and aftercareare as important as the treatment.

We look after the treatment itself. Everything either side of it is yours to look after, and it matters more than most people expect.

Before you come

  • Shave your head around twenty four hours before your appointment.
  • No alcohol the night before.
  • Go easy on caffeine on the day.
  • If you take aspirin or blood thinners, speak to your doctor first.

Afterwards

  • No touching or washing for the first three days.
  • Water only from day three, a gentle cleanser from day seven.
  • No exfoliants on the scalp for thirty days.
  • Keep it out of direct sun, and no steam rooms, saunas or public baths for seven to ten days.
  • Normal activities can resume after thirty days.
The honest bit

Why every tattooed pigmentcools over time.

Nobody in this industry likes explaining this. We would rather you heard it from us before the treatment than from the internet a year afterwards.

It's optics, not workmanship. Pigment sitting in the dermis scatters light in a way that reads cooler than the pigment's true colour. It's the same effect that makes veins look blue when the blood in them is red, and it's called the Tyndall effect. It happens in all skin, at every skill level, with every pigment brand on the market.

There's a second, smaller factor. The warmer elements in a pigment blend fade faster than the more stable ones, which nudges the tone cooler as it ages.

Technique, pigment quality and depth of placement affect how evenly and how quickly this happens. They don't stop it happening. No practitioner, however skilled, and no pigment, however well engineered, can eliminate it. Anyone telling you otherwise is selling you something.

Which is why a colour boost exists. Warmer tones are worked back into the pigment on a schedule, ahead of the cooling becoming visible, rather than after.

How many sessions your boost takes depends on how much work is needed, so we confirm it when we see the scalp rather than guessing now.

The Colour Boost Club doesn't cover scalp work. It's for brows, eyeliner and lips.

We're always happy to colour boost another technician's work, but please assume your first appointment with us will be charged at the full new treatment price. It usually involves a full consultation, a redesign and a retouch, so it isn't eligible for colour boost pricing at that first appointment.

How many sessions will I need?

Usually more than one. Density is built up in layers, and how many depends on the area, your hair loss pattern and the result you're after. We'll give you a plan at your consultation rather than a guess now.

Does it work if I have long hair?

In most cases, yes. It's used to add the appearance of density through thinning areas rather than only for shaved heads.

Can it be done after a hair transplant?

Yes, in most cases. It's often used to blend transplant scarring and to add density between grafts. Bring the detail of what you have had done to your consultation.

How long does it last?

It fades within two to three years if it's left unmaintained. A colour boost keeps it where you want it.

Does it hurt?

It should not, no. A topical anaesthetic is used and reapplied throughout. Most clients find the scalp more comfortable than they expected.

Do I need a patch test?

Patch testing is arranged per treatment, so it depends what you're having done. We'll tell you at your consultation whether yours needs one and when it has to be done.

How long is the appointment?

Allow around two hours for a new treatment, including your consultation, the mapping and the colour match. Your retouch at five to eight weeks is shorter.

What if I need to cancel?

Permanent makeup appointments need five working days' notice, because they're long appointments. Without that notice the £50 deposit is forfeited and payable again on rebooking.
